The main objective of this book is to draw a comprehensive and integrated picture of the main components of water resources in the Sudan, noting the growing and competing demands for these finite recourses. This was considered the right time to undertake such a compilation; before it becomes too late to avoid future mistakes in water allocations. It comes also at the eve of planning the Sudan’s responses to 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in which water resources play a significant role.

The structure of the publication includes the following three sections:
•    The first section of the publication focuses on the elements of the water resources themselves with four chapters consecutively on: “Water and Climate”, “Water and Hydrology (Surface and Groundwater)”, “Water Related Disaster (Floods and Droughts)” and “Rainwater Harvesting in Sudan”.
•    The second section of the publication focuses on water applications with nine chapters consecutively on: “Water and Agricultures Nexus”, “Water and Energy Nexus”, “Water and Human Needs and Livestock requirements ”, “Water for Industry”, “Water and Transport”, “Water and Environment Nexus in the Sudan”, “Water for Recreation”, “Water, Health and Sanitation Nexus” and “Water and Culture”.
•    The third section of the publication focuses on water management issues expressed in eleven chapters on: “IWRM in Sudan”, “Decision Support Systems for Water Resources Development and Management”, “Water Governance”, “Water Capacity Development”, “Modeling Techniques”, “Water Information System (WIS)”, “Socio-economic Characteristics and Sanitation Facilities in Sudan”, “Hydro-economic Aspects”, “Enhanced Knowledge-base and Capacity for Hydro-Cooperation within the Nile Basin”, “Water Laws and Regulations in Sudan”, and “Sudan and International Water Laws”.
